Akumal (Ak: turtle, mal: the place of) is a small bay, well protected by the second largest reef the world (the Mesoamerican reef), with very few waves, certain hour s of the day, it seems a giant pool. At the bottom grows a grass ocean, which is a favorite food of sea turtles, that’s why they can be seen here all year long (except the mating season from months to febrary and september).
Akumal is the perfect place to snorkel, for all kinds of people, even beginners, for it’s few waves, the perfect place to observe these chelonians in their natural habitat, as well some other species.
