From Mérida, just 2 hrs by road, we can be in the city of Campeche, the capital of the state with the same name, located on the west side of the Yucatan peninsula, facing the Gulf of Mexico and built after the conquest of the Mayan city of Akin Pech, it was the port of the Yucatan peninsula from where goods were shipped to Spain and where they were received the payments for there.
Due to the importance and wealth of the place, the famous pirates of the Caribbean used to attack the city to steal everything possible, including women, which is why the city council decides to wall the city whose remnants we can admire, full of history, colonial architecture, beautiful pastel painted houses and military architecture on the wall and in the two fortifications built outside the city on the hills to protect it from the sides, now museums that we can visit.
After the visit we can recommend a restaurant and after lunch we will return to Mérida or where you prefer to stay. (Meals are not included).
